So, what happened?
We got hacked.
Someone got a hold of an admin’s password, logged in, injected code into the database to allow backdoor (can’t say that without grinning like an idiot) access. Then they went and purged all the users and posts. They did not access any old passwords, and even if they had, they are hashed, so they couldn’t read them without the key.
So, the site came down, and I decided to do a clean re-launch. This let me flush out the database to make things more organized and secure. I know everyone has to re-create their accounts, I’m sorry about it. But hopefully motovlog 2.0 is going to be better than the 1.0 forum.
It was initially suspected (by me and many others) that boobtubevwr was behind the intrusion. Since his ban expired, we had experienced multiple dos attacks and the then the final intrusion. Let me be explicitly clear: While he is an easy target due to his past behaviors on the previous forum, I don’t believe he was involved in the intrusion. I personally apologize for accusing boobtubevwr in public with little evidence to back it up. If you need a timeline of how this played out, check the twitter feed (@motovlog) or the google+ feed (Moto Vlog).
While we do have a good idea of who was behind the mayhem, that topic has already been covered in other places and doesn't need to be rehashed here. In the Thunderdome, maybe, but not here.
So without further adieu, welcome to motovlog.com 2.0. We've had a graphical overhaul, and streamlined a lot of things . Get to know each other and start talking about bikes, vlogging, and general whatnot. There are YouTube and Vimeo embedding functions built into the posting function, use them to post your videos where appropriate.
If you have any suggestions, please post them in the appropriate forum. In the spirit of controlled testing, any updates will be rolled out incrementally after thorough testing and backup.
"Welcome back" to some of you, and "welcome" for the first time to the rest. For the returning crew, thanks for sticking with us, and I really appreciate your patience. Let's make this a fun community where people can celebrate their passion for motorcycling adventures and their joy of sharing their lives through video.
