Use 1 Mic Of Stereo-mic To Capture Exhaust Sound

I'm thinking of moving 1 of my mics (I currently have a stereo setup inside my helmet) to the back of my helmet, and aim it towards the outside to capture more motorcycle sound and even less wind noise.

Any of you guys use an external way of capturing motorcycle sound and voice seperatly?

I use a H2N in my pocket of engine noise wired up to a mic in my helmet for the drivel I speak.

The H2N gives me 4 tracks to play with and I can mix the engine noise as I want.

How do your separate mics work?

The H2N looks really nice, might pick up one of those!

The separate mics I have are just stereo mics running into my GoPro. I can then later extract both channels and make them stereo (mono on both channels) and mix the sound of both...normally I would leave it be...left and right (you can actually hear a car riding on the left when he is on the left). But it doesn't really add to the viewing experience...and a better exhaust sound does IMHO.

The reason I ask is that having 2 mics go to my Zoom might be useful when the missus is riding with me as a pillion.

I have the mono mics, but no idea what to get to combine them into a standard stereo jack for the H2N line in.

If you are a bit handy with a soldering iron you can easily make it yourself. Take any type of stereo jack cable, some shrinktubing and solder away.

There are probably stereo mics out there but I dont know of any small ones where preferebly even the mics are seperate so you can put them in different locations...

I'm a man, so naturally I'm well versed in the ways of the soldering iron.

I'm also lazy, because I'm a man, and I was hoping you had an off the shelf solution for very little cost :P

Hahahaha nice :D

Go to your local cable shop, they have a stereo to 2xmono minijack splitter...I think it is also called a y-cable. But be sure you don't get stereo to 2x stereo. You need 2xmono minijack...then plugin any minijack mics...and there ya go :D

Nice xD

I have moved one of the mics to the back of my helmet and moved the inside mic a little closer to my mouth. I am actually thinking of processing the audio track after editing. I can put a noise gate over my voice, so that mic only activates when I talk and mix that in with the riding :)))

Hahaha loving this. I can solder pretty exact as well, I have soldered on very small prints and have a pretty steady hand. Heck, I made my own home domotics controlling the heat, lights and measuring home power usage. :D I even designed a custom PCB and printed it.

I never have moto sound in my videos :( Makes me sad, but to lazy to add another mic haha. I fill the emptiness with low music.

i considered looking into this setup a while ago Vlotomog, but between this and that forgot all about it.

makes prefect sense though. There are two channels there so might as well use both. Plus it means one less device (sound recorder) to carry about and one less record button to push!

Swiss Motard, you can get a stereo to 2x mono splitter cable. I just ordered one from eBay for €3.79
