Anyone who has an SV650, could you give me a little review on one. I went into my local dealership and spotted a really nice one, i took an insurance quote on it and it came back as £380 fully comp :). Because of this, i am considering one over a Daytona. Things like commuting and the fact the bike has to stand outside work in the open, maybe the Daytona will be a burden perhaps even too much for a "First Big Bike".

i would like to know things like =
MPG
the bikes pull from red lights
riding position
handling
and any general issues with the SV

Thanks :)

£380 for an SV, first big bike fully comp is great. How many years have tou been rising may i ask?

Will you be restricting it?

i will have been riding 2 years in may (when i will go about upgrading), and i will have 2 years no claims (touch wood). It will be de-restricted as i am doing the direct access.

That seems way to cheap for 2y's NCB & Fully Comp.

My Boss is paying £410 for an RSVR Fully Comp with 12y's NCB.

Weird.

Owning an SV depends on what you want from a bike.

SV - Double Bubble Screen = Easy M/way riding, Planted + Faring = Brilliant Commuter.
Puling away from lights isn't an issue on anything more than 250.
Compelty stock - 40mpg about 100/120miles - Tank

No Issues with the bikes, I've heard the Rectifier can go which is a £60 fix.
But same goes with every bike, aslong as you look after them, they will look after you.

Riding postion isn't an issue, depending on what SV you get.

SV Curvy - 99-02 - Upright, Sit up & Beg. < Same as the YBR
SVS Curvy - 99-02 - Slightly on the bars.

Same for the Newer Years.

What year was it if you don't mind me asking.

With no years no claims I had offers for 300 fully comp on an sv650 :S

Chuck are you with this Wicked Quotes ?

I've heard alot about them and they can get bike quotes cheap. I have choosen this time to go with the suplier of my bike due to the fact if I am to crash parts are sorted sooner rather than later.

Who did you search with POPE?

Very cheap i know, all the information i entered is correct :S. Apparently it also goes on the rarity of bikes and how many get stolen/damaged in your area , everyone near me has a ninja ans surprise i cant get a ninja for under £1000 lol . the bike im looking at is an 04 SV. i searched with http://www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk/, and the cheapest was from just motorcycle insurance at (oh my bad) £402 full comp, still cheap for my circumstance.

an 04 is a nice bike, Silver frame?

They changed it in 05 to black, 03 was the year of the new shape and they where 'apprently' still tweeking stuff from 02-03 shape.

New Frame, Fairing, Design, FI, Subframe, Swingarm & Forks.

Pretty much a new bike, You won't have to worry about Carbs but you might have to keep you FI filter clean.

Beauty of a twin is the torque is from 0- redline, So getting to speed is alot faster than 4's, You will think that riding a 600+ with that much torque will just be a wheelie monster, but far from it. SV is probbably, if not the best "beginner bike" you will get.

I know that if I where to be put on a V4 or Inline 4 restricted, I would be bored very quickly after riding the SV. But your doing your DAS so your fine. If you ride with some of them Ninjas you where talking about I'm positive you will keep up - untill they hit their power band, but by that time your already in 6th, tucked in, 100yards ahead & it will be alot harder for them to catch up.

If you get the SV you will be more than happy, adding a Slip on your face will light up every time you turn her on.

BikerChickVids has made a review of her 05 SVS. Only difference is Colour Frame, Plastics & What she's added.

To echo what they said above you can't go wrong with an SV as a first big bike, they come highly recommended. Personally I just didn't like the look of them (even with the fairings they just looked sort of like a super sport but not quite).

Anyways, personal preference is key here and there are a bunch of other solid first big bikes out there but you're in good hands with the SV.

the price of the insurance also depends on where about you live as well.

You can't get much safer than the country side it tends to be cheaper out there than your big citys.

Theres a big difference between 12y's NCB & 2y's NCB. & I could be wrong but I don't think POPE is 45y/o.

POPE do you have a picture of the bike? or a link ?

Does it have the front fairing or is it the naked version?

Looks v.clean & tidy, Would recomend the 'S' version.

Chuck, yea I think they take into account how many years you have been on the road with out accidents within the last 5, mines £750 thats why I was shocked slightly.

Next year it will come down to about £450 but because of wanting a Sportsbike / Double what the SV has @ the rear wheel, they want minimum £1000 for one. so at the moment the SV is great.

I have friends that ride, ZX6r, Mille, Fireblade, GSXR750, ZX10 & a BMW R1100s < I'm going to the IOM with these guys  I'll be asking the meeting point before we've set off, hehe.

thing that would put me off is 20kmiles but considering it has a FULL service history is great, I bought mine, 02, 7k miles for £1.7. I pretty much did legal robbery when I bought my bike, & I got the guy down from £2.1.

Presuming you will be PXing the YBR, you been given a quote for your YBR surprisingly some motorcycle shops will do a straigh swap for a 125 due to such high demand for them.
