Fellow action cam user eh? I've seen someone that has modded his case to allow a mic to be jacked in. If I ever get on a bike that's how I am going to have to roll myself. I don't want an external sound recorder added... that would be even more editing than I already do.

You can always use a skeleton case if you want to plug in a mic directly. Only caveat is that you won't be able to ride in the rain and you also run the risk of damaging the lens. My brother has this setup and he's been using it for several months with no problems to the lens.

I use the skeleton case in my dashcam setup. The headband setup I use has a similar setup. But it's in car, so safe from debris.

I bet by the time I get on a bike I'll have a different camera as it will more than likely take years. But if the action cam is still functional I'd probably hack up a underwater case and mod it. I don't like riding in the rain, been there done that. But if you get caught in the rain I don't want to be worrying about the camera. And the whole lens getting impacted by something is a deal-breaker too. With my luck it would happen on day one!

How's that SENA SMH10 or SMH5 Bluetooth Headset working out? looking to get one.......
I found a pretty nasty review about the sena here.

No wonder those base plates stopped working. there is more fluff on those pins then in my belly button. (and thats saying alot)

Just joking btw.

Congratulations. You found the 1 person on the internet who dislikes the SMH10. Now, pat yourself on the back for finding that treasure trove of invaluable insight, then run to the store as fast as you can and buy the SMH10 since it's the best damn headset money can buy.

Is the sony cam worth buying? because thats the one im really looking at getting if as and when i can find the money, or find one for cheap used.

I just picked up a Sony Action Cam for $130 at best buy. I wasnt planning on it but I walked in to look at a JVC which was on sale for $100 and the sony looked much nicer. I am very happy with the raw quality. I lose some quality of course uploading to youtube but the audio/video is really nice for $130. I then got an external ME52W mic for $12 and mounted in helmet with some microfiber surrounding it. So far it works real well and with further exploration in tuning my videos and audio I'm sure it will be where I want it.

This is what I plan to do:

I have 5 version and that pretty sweet

The customer service is awful though

I actually modded my action cam housing in a similar fashion and it works great. I had to dremel down the pastic on the mic jack itself so after a 1000 miles nothing has ever come undone or loose with the housing lens, mic cable, latch etc....

I think I'll go with the Cardo Scala Rider. How it compares with the SMH10? I didn't see any bad review of the Scala Rider.
