Where's my coffee?
So I guess now that I'm going to be more active, I should introduce myself. I joined years ago, and started messing around with Vlogging. Never quite got it though, since life was chaotic at the time. Decided to get back in this year, with more experience using YT and editing software.
I'm Rob, hailing from the US in central Wisconsin. I started riding on dirt bikes as a kid. Got my Class M the week after I got my regular DL at 16, and proceeded to ride, race, and tour for many years. About 5 years ago, I sold off everything after 2 rear end collisions in a week, 1 traffic light apart. Both someone else hitting me while stopped for the light. 1st one was on my wife's GSXR1000, and I came out ok, though the bike was done. 2nd was on my FJR, and that guy plowed me hard into the car in front of me, causing shoulder separation, cracked ribs, and a cracked femur. Thankfully, I'm an all the gear guy, and it did it's job.
Between that and some other health issues with my wife, it was time for a break. Honestly, I didn't intend on getting back on this soon. But all the issues are resolved, 2020 was an excercise in frustration with people, and 2021 had me in the position to get my head back in a helmet. With blessing from the wife, I'm back on 2 wheels! Picked up a 2015 Yamaha FJ-09 with 1100 miles on it, and after just a few quick rides, I'm in LOVE!
I also decided to go for it with the vlogging. Set up with a Drift X, and we'll see where it goes. definitely a learning curve, but I'm much more prepared this time.
In my personal life, I'm married, turning 40 this year, and have 3 kiddos. I'm also a truck driver as a profession. Local LTL driver. So I'm home daily. Think of a UPS guy who delivers pallets instead of boxes. I'm also a giant nerd. Love me some video games and anime, build Gundam models, build PC's, and do RC rock crawling.
My main riding is sport-touring. I also dig adventure stuff. Not really looking into getting back on the track, I don't bounce like I did in my 20's. lol! I like exploring back roads, and finding old abandoned places, interesting scenery, and waterfalls. Oh do I love me some waterfalls!
As for bikes, my main preference leads to sporty GT types, but I love them all. I can appreciate a vintage Norton, or a well done Harley just as much as a kitted out FJR or GS Adventure. Out of all the bikes I've had, my favorite was my touring setup '08 Hayabusa was top dog. I could eat the miles on that thing! Though this FJ has really grabbed my soul, so we'll see.
So that's me. I'm a middle age bald dad who is a perpetual 12 year old, and a taste for nerdy things and exploration.
