Im in and bringing KoiGirl250, a friend, and LaurieJennifer.

Cool. Will be great to get to meet you. Just to throw it out there, is KoiGirl250 and A. Friend cool with having their faces in pics and vids and stuff? Seems like I made a vid about this not to long ago..haha.

KoiGirl250? Yes.

A friend? I'm pretty sure he is... he would probably prefer to stay out of most shots but given the relatively low viewership of motovloggers by the "general public" that he would know, I think we'll be fine. I'll talk to him and find out. Remember, he's used to hanging around me and he knows I use a camera constantly when I ride. He also knows this is a mini motovlogger convention.

On the subject of beer. I vote that everyone learns to homebrew and just brings their own beer. Then we can try out 10-15 new homebrewed beers! (I really haven't been thinking about it that much FYI... I just keep rereading this thread).

So... I have to ask this question. I get 50ish mpg on my sumo and on a good day I can pump about 1.5 gallons of gas. Is this going to become an issue trying to stop every... 70-85mi? I might be able to figure an aux fuel canister out, however it would be easiest for me to just stop more frequently but I'd hate to inconvenience everyone else...

That most likely will be an issue, service stations are few and far between. And closing hours are wacky, I've run across several that just close if they are not busy, especially on Sundays. LJ had a little more range than you and she was sweating it. If you can carry extra fuel that would make a big difference. Trinith is laying out the routes, but he has only so many roads to take to get to a certain region.

At the first Ozarks, on the Sunday ride , I was over 170 miles between fill ups. It can get pretty damn scarce out there. This year will be a whole new adventure since this is the first time we are starting out at The Hub, and will be doing all new areas and new roads.

Would definitely look into carry some back up fuel if your range is only 70 - 80 miles. Figure each day riding will probably be in the neighborhood of 200 to 250 miles. But we usually get lost a few times too..lol.

My range, even with the third gallon, will still only be around 110 miles. Looks like I'll be bringing lots of fuel bottles! LOL

Oh, but my 50cc has a 2.5 gallon tank (bigger than my KLX's tank!) and gets roughly 120 mpg. Should I bring my 50 instead?

Yeah, I'd like to try to bend to limiting the space between gas stations to 100 miles or so, but that's not really possible. I even made a special trip out there in 2010 to try it. We're riding through the middle of BFE, where people get excited when Dueling Banjos is audible. Those of you who can't safely make 150-ish miles should probably find some way of carrying spare gas.

Half the problem isn't that the gas stations are so far apart, it's finding them. Half the ones you can find on gmaps are either gone, out of business, or just piles of rust, and half the ones that ARE there don't show up on maps. Oh, and forget about thinking "There's a town here, they'll have gas." I know of atleast 3 towns out there that are either just a single intersection with a building on a corner or some farmer who put up a second house and a "Welcome to Who Da Thunk It" sign. No, I did not make that name up. That place really does exist, though I may have spelled it wrong..

Oh, btw. If you guys can come up with small, uncrushable containers for the fuel, I can bring my luggage racks and some straps. :)

Looks like I'm going to be bringing spare fuel then, lol! I'll have to figure that out. If it's a big problem for me on day one then I may just ride 2 up with KoiGirl on day 2.

Between now and then I'll do a fuel run on my bike and figure out how far I have until empty, not just reserve... I bet I can hit 100-120 miles but I know I won't be hitting more than that. Those of us with thimble sized gas tanks might just have to stop at the first station we see after 50mi just in case there won't be one for another 70-80... in total we are only talking about 3 or 4 gas stops in a day. I think it's doable.

I should post that footage of our gas hunt with me running on fumes. LOL Gosh, that was hilarious. I was doing a lot of nervous muttering in my helmet.

Post it LJ!

Yep - 2 stations that I knew existed, but closed early. And that was on a Saturday around 4:30-ish! I don't want to come across like it was all LJ's fault (I planned the route and was counting on the first station being open). These are unpredictable circumstances, but the fuel diversion probably cost us about 45 minutes and 30 miles. I'm not complaining - just pointing out what can easily happen.

And when we finally found a station, I believe I put 1.9something gallons in my 2.0 gallon tank. That's about as close as you can cut it!

Good luck. I can tell you that the head of the pack (when I'm leading..) usually runs a constant 60-70mph. There's not a lot of real tight twisties, so not a whole lot of on and off again throttle. I'd go with the highway mileage out there and maybe plan on getting just a couple fewer mpg.

Come to think of it, the best mileage I got when I rode from Houston to Chattanooga in November was when I made a loop through the Ozarks. Better even than running 55-60mph through the backwoods of East Texas..

Trouble is, on a motard your highway mileage is worse than your city/twisties mileage. No wind projection, single cylinder...

Assuming my bike is jetted correctly and valves are replace (in the works the next few weeks), I generally get 65 around town, 60 on the highway (cruising 55), and 55 on the track (cruising 65-75, also known as WFO).

All the more reason to use highway mileage then. Which mileage set is worse or better is irrelevant, along with why. The point is that riding through those rural roads is pretty much a constant speed, like riding down a highway, unlike riding in a city.

Though to address the why, it's most likely the gearing. My single cylinder 650cc cruiser got much better mileage running a steady 55mph than it did in town. If a bike is geared for quick starts, like say..a motard or a dirtbike, it's not geared right for highway use and therefore will be turning more RPM than necessary, leading to higher fuel consumption. It's the exact same reason why running -1+2 gearing on the 98 VFR took it from 43mpg on the freeway to around 34. ;)

Borrow Ninja 250 from place of work, Ride said Ninja 250 during the Ozarks Meetup, Return Ninja 250 to place of work!!

Problems Solved, Problems Staying Solved!!

Borrowing the Ninja for the weekend around town was one thing. They wouldn't let me take it all the way to the Ozarks and ride twisties. Besides, the Ninja 250 is so slow and boring compared to what I've gotten used to.

KTM would be amazing. But I would, indeed, need to win the lottery. LOL

The only KTM I could ever afford would be if I got my hands on a 2 stroke motor and did, indeed, swap out the motor on the BadBoy... and that would be freakin' amazing. So long, stupid valves! Hello, powerband!
