Motovloggers Invade Deals Gap!

Sorry about the absence guys, I've been busy as crap lately. I'll have a vid continuing on about this meetup going onto YT in a couple days, it's already filmed, just gotta get it rendered and all that.

Is this still going to happen? I ride in that area quite a bit and can help with some cool routes. As a matter of fact I just got finished mapping out a group ride up there for some of my riding friends.

I suggest staying somewhere other than Deals Gap. Robbinsville is just about perfect. It's close to a lot of cool roads but it's not right in the middle of the motorcycle tourist trap known as Deals Gap. I would also suggest riding the Dragon once or twice at most just as a treat for the people that have never done it so they can say they have and then getting the hell out of there. There are lots of roads just as good or better in that area. They just don't have the PR that Deals Gap and the Dragon have.

We've put down many, many miles out there. I have no intention of staying at Deals Gap on a weekend, it's ridiculous. Feel free to PM me whatever routes you want though, I'm always happy to take a look.

Weekends in that area are super busy. If plans aren't made soon they need to be.
Yeah, I've been thinking lately that I need to get the ball rolling with hotel information. Been swamped with school work lately though. Hopefully I can get something figured out in a week or two.

why cant all vloggers go to the fort worth stock yards?
All the vloggers can't go anywhere. A meetup that big would be next to impossible to plan, and scheduling would be a nightmare. That, and city riding (and DFW in general) sucks. :P

I'd echo what Matt said, you're not very far from Arkansas, you should come out.

cool... now I just have to figure out how to afford it... I got the bike I wanted (hence the no money) now I just gotta get down there... hmmm maybe I can sell a kidney.

Dallas does have that, among other things. These meet-ups are to get away from traffic, to enjoy being out on the road. I don't think you'll find many folks that want to purposely ride around in a larger city on their motorcycle while on vacation. Deals Gap region and the Ozarks region are pretty underdeveloped and make for great motorcycling adventures.[/quote]

What about east texas

You're not far from the Ozarks and Ozarks is already planned and a lot of people are attending.

If you think that's a good idea, start organizing it. See what comes out of it. Both times I engineered a meetup there were about 5 people in attendance. One of those went for 6 years before fizzling, and saw upwards of 20 at a time. The other is only gaining strength, with 15+ every year since the first.

Good luck!

it seems the destinations are always roads and not actual places why not meet there and pick a destination else where

Hmmm. Clarksville is 6 hours from Fort Worth. You should hit the Ozark meetup next month.

Sent from mobile device, forgive the janky grammar and spelling.

no money

...tight turns arent my thing but some wavy roads and straights are my favorite you get to enjoy the scenery more

I'm going to guess that the roads at either Deals Gap or northern Arkansas aren't going to be your thing, we generally try to avoid straight roads. Hard to say what the average person spends at these events, you got 2 or 3 meals each day, gas for each day (figure about 175-275 miles/day if planned routes hold) the motel and of course gas getting to/from the event headquarters.

Just a quick adder in my head, so I'd say about $275. But....I only lived 1-1/2 or 2-1/2 hours from either of the locations we've used in the Ozark Meetups, so I don't have the travel expense.

Plan it out for 4 days:

Food: 3 meals @ $10 each (roughly) = 30/day, 4 days = $120
Lodging: $40 per night @ 3 nights = $120 (less if you can split with a roomie)
Gas: I get 200 miles to a tank and I'm estimating 400 on friday, 200 on Sat and Sun, and 400 back home on monday. That's 6 tanks at roughly $20 a pop = $120
Folding cash: as budget allows, lets say $40 for the weekend.

My math says the weekend is going to cost me about $400. Your mileage will be different, and you're coming from farther away and may want to add an extra day of travel. Your costs will probably be higher. You could save money on lodging by rooming with someone or finding a campsite (I recall there being one like one exit away from the meetup hotel.

The Ozarks trip costs me about $700 for 8 days of riding and 7 nights of lodging. That is also why it's kind of hard for me to make it. If I lived as close at XXX526, I would be able to make it this year...and last year, too. 8-)
