Lower Gear For General Riding

I already have a leather alpinestars jacket, gauntlet gloves, and good boots... but not sure what route to go with the lower half for general purpose riding. I'm not canyon carving yet... just looking to get some protection. What do you guys do for that sort of thing?
 
when i ride short distances like going to school or to a friends house i like to wear my kevlar jeans and my riding jacket. I dont think u really need all of your better gear IF your only using slow speed roads.
 
o_O .. not saying thats wrong henterfin ... but .. how to account for the 'any speed' accidents .. which are by definition accidental!! .. ;)

but .. ive got a pair of fully lined kevlar jeans .. mostly for cooler weather .. but wearable on the hot days too .. so long as i dont sit still too long!

and recently added a pair of Bull-It Jeans ... with .. (looks it up again) "covec" .. which is .. umm something... thats sposed to be better than kevlar ... thankfully ive not actually 'tested' that claim yet ...

they are a fair bit cooler than the full lined kevlar ones though!! .. comfy!
 
Got some Hein Gericke textile trousers, came with warm removable inserts for winter riding and knee pads - cost me £15 on ebay. Bargain and a half.
 
I use a 'cheapy' pair of Kevlars, but will get some 'Better Kevlar' brand soonish. Mainly for the 30-40+deg (celcius), days we get here in summer :cool:

But if im going out to 'Play', ill DEFINATELY wear leathers, whatever the temperature!!

Im one for keeping gear for YEARS, if Tears or Breaks ocurr, ill fix-em (i like to get my monies worth lol). But i find the main thing that goes in Leather Boots/Pants are the zippers, stupid plastic rubbish most are, or u rip the handle off the pull thingy (a key-ring ring is great to replace when broken handle).

Anyway, my 'Cheapy' kevlars were $99 (eXtreme brand??), the leather pants were $199(Rjays) and boots $150-200ish (Rossi). So if you can afford it get the two sets??
Just watch the thickness of the leather, theres ALOT of really thin rubbish leaving Pakistan? and China? nowadays.
They peel the leather into layers, to get more Hides out of one.

Obviously the thicker the leather, the Stronger+Longer tear/slide resistance.
IMO - Leather vs Kevlar = Leather WIN!!

Also, i'd goto a local shop, then u can try em on, feel it/check it, etc. Interwebby doesnt do Warranty/returns as well as an actual store??

My Rjay pants had the front zipper go within 2weeks of purch., went to store, went home with new pair off the shelf, NO questions.

I'd look into some type of over pants maybe mesh over pants or textile for the winter I bought the whole icon anthem set (jacket+over pants) for about $200 pretty good investment Kevlar jeans are nice as well if your just doing some commuting but I'm more of an over pant fan lets you wear w/e you want with out having to worry about protection.

yeah... I've looked at some kevlar jeans and some shin guards and alpinestars shorts to wear underneath that may be the way to go. I've been down once before... road rash sucks..
 
For most (dry) riding I use RST Kevlar Jeans, which have knee & hip protectors. In the colder weather I've worn them with a thin baselayer and never had cold legs.

For wet and/or really cold I have RST Adventure textile trousers (again with knee & hip protectors). They're a pretty flexible bit of kit, as they come with removable waterproof liner and removable quilted thermal liner. So you can mix and match what parts you put in depending on the weather conditions

I like the armor and kevlar jean combination its pretty cool kinda wish I bought some but at this point I can't justify buying anymore gear except a 1 piece.
 
Armor and kevlar jeans are the best way to go. Most kevlar jeans just look like ordinary jeans anyway and just as comfortable too <3 X x
 
Thanks for all the good suggestions. I think I'm gonna go ahead and pick up some kevlar jeans and maybe those alpinestars armor base layer, haven't decided yet.
 
Since I commute to and from work, at morning and evening rush hour, and for around 30kms (20 miles or so), I use these:

Drenaline Outsiders - they are waterproof (goretex-similiar internal layer), got a winter liner, and (most importantly) have the knee/shinpads on them. Since these are semi-offroad cut, they also have foam padding on the inside of the knees and on the hip.
 
Kevlar jeans are the way to go.

I used to ride around with standard jeans for short trips into town until i had a car fail to stop infront of me.

Long story shot - Every part of by body outside my legs where fine - Road Rash hurts!
 
I do own kevlar jeans but recently decided my old textile trousers are much nicer and allow me to wear what I want underneath.
