Hey guys, sorry I don't have a bike, I got a moped. Yeah lm not proud of it but it's all I got, it goes 50mph. I just got my drivers license about a cupple months back, and already I've had a lot of close calls by dumb drivers. Just wondering what would be a good first bike to get?

You already have your first bike, and if your having plenty of close calls you need to adjust your riding style. I know that sounds harsh, try reading this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Motorcycle-...143X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345196489&sr=8-1

As for what to move onto next (bike wise), there is no best first time bike, your be limited to circumstances, cash and the style/type of bike you like.

If you age limits you to say 33bhp bike then I would get a second hand 125 and ride that, naked, street offroad all up to you. Why just a 125? Its cheap! Insurance is cheap! Petrol is cheap! As soon as you move up from a 125 it starts to get costly.

Or if you have a full licence and want to be a street riding hooligan a nice Ninja 250 :)) (Personaly I would go 125 then a 650 style of bike).

If limitations are not there then a 60-80bhp bike might be worth considering, that may sound like a weak bike compared to a 600cc sports bike but most will do 0-60 in under 3 seconds, so you will beat nearly all cars off the line you meat on the road.

What I wouldn't advise is a 600 sports bike or above. Also do look at good second hand bikes as your first bike you wont keep for too long and the depreciation on a new bike will make that a huge money hole.

He's from Wisconsin, USA. There are no Horsepower limits for new riders. (I hear all the British brains exploding, lol).

Anyway, Welcome! get a ninja 250. (For you Brits, it's almost impossible to find those 125's you all like so much).

Thanks for the welcome! Yeah I know I need to improve my riding before I move up in bikes. I would LOVE to have a 600 but I can't afford it. I almost got enough money for a used 250 so I'm considering that. Thanks again, I'll put pics out of my moped soon.

As someone pointed out above, the fact you have any kind of bike even if its i a moped is good because it gives you the basic prinicple of riding experience. I know there is lot of debate among riders about the whole 250 vs 600/650 as a first bike. I just recently bought a 600 and I feel quite comfortable on it because I've had experience prior. I think if you show the bike respect and not try to push the boundries of your skill level, I personally feel that 600 or 650 would be fine if you decide to wait and save up more money. I will, however, speak up against getting 1000 as a first one though.

I'd get a used 250 just to get some experience on a "big bike"! Don't get a supersports etc as that would just be dumb! A guy round the corner from me bought a 1300 Hyabusa 2 days after passing his full bike test, 3 days afteer that he killed himself and his passenger from doing 120 on a country road and hit a tractor.............

Welcome ThatMOPEDdude.
I recently passed my MOD2 DAS and purchased a Honda CBR600f. I trained on a Kawasaki er6 and to tell you the truth. The isn't a great deal of difference. My Honda has waaaaay more acceleration than the er6 and the CBR is a heavier bike. I wouldn't say the size of the bike is the issue. Its the biker in charge of the throttle and clutch that's the problem. If you are not gentle with that clutch and throttle you wont be riding the bike long, you would be in a hedge some where.

Just to add to my last post. Experience on the road is a must! Predicting what cagers are about to do is a skill of its own.
