Use at your own risk. I've done 4 of these now and only got pictures after i took the last one back apart to take them. Did not show Soldering..Self explanatory..


I am using a $75 SJ400 for my Helmet camera. I tore it down and clipped the condenser mic from the board and soldered in two leads that run to a $4 Radio shack Mic jack added to the inside of the case. I have a $6 lapel mic situated in the cheek pad. I have not fiddled much with the camera settings much. Seems Ok. I have less than $90 in the camera Mic jack and mic. I am pretty new at this so be nice...




Just so you know it ahead of time...It seems I like to ramble a lot I'll tone it down in future vids.


This vid is just me riding around in Jefferson Barracks Park In St Louis Mo on my 2009 Hyosung GV650.
watch in 1080p. (Or what the sj4000 thinks is 1080p)

Start at 3:00 mark for the ride unless you want to hear about the camera and bike.

 
Vid is long and boring.. Was made to basically test the camera and mic out. And see what the battery life was like. LOT's of incessant rambling....Lot's
 
This was with *0ut of the box* settings on very cloudy day. The cameras are pretty good. I just haven't messed with the settings much. I see some guys posting vids on YouTube are starting to post setting info with their vids. I may try a few other settings and see how it works out.
 
i'll buy new camera this month , and I'm interested with camera sj4000. i'll ask, what do you think about this camera and how powerful the side mount helmet sj4000 ? ;)

I've seen one mount crack on a friends bike, could have been over tight but I've never seen a legit gopro mount fail

but I'm confused, there are three options that about camera would I buy.
first sj4000 ( cheap price. but as you say side mount isn't good ),
Drift HD720 (I don't know there are whether include side mount or not),
gopro (last choice because it is expensive)
any ideas?

This might be an easier way

Gopros I was using for music videos, non voice or track days. I personally find they're better quality for footage. However, they're not a pick up and go camera because of the way you can't level roads quickly etc. The S4000 would be the same, decent enough quality but annoying to set up on a lid.

The drift for me, is the perfect everyday camera. You can grab it, slap it on the helmet and record.

However, since sena brought out the bluetooth audio pack Ive found that I've started using the gopro on the front of the bike because no wires are needed.

Give you credit, that has worked really well, I wasn't sure of the position until I watched you Video its a very clear view without too much of the helmet in the way
 
Id try to pop it on my chin if i was you. Gopro's work best there, Sj might also

Other than that. Awesome man! good cam, good mod
 
I've known someone who's chin mount saved his life lol

He got a SMIDSY and went into the car, the go pro hit the car roof and snapped, this caused him to flip over the car rather than on it
