Seem Drift really wants to keep up to GoPro and will not be outdone in the world of action cameras and being all techy! To be honest I wasn't going to post anything about this camera because well it seems to just be going in a trendy development direction with touch screens and such. But it has really stepped up it's game and has included some good features like tagging which is only available in the incredibly expensive V.I.O POV! This is a huge improvement and would have been cool to see in a firmware update. It also has a nice LED indicator on the remote and camera to tell you if you're recording or not, that is if the remote will work well. Either way it will be nice to have a clearly visible indicator instead of straining to listen to the BEEP only to forget which sound means recording and which sound means done recording. Claimed longer battery life YAY! As for pure recording FPS nothing has changed here worth mentioning. A few more megapixels added to stills and an adjustable FOV not that i would change off of that 170° FOV anyway but some might like to change it.
THE TWO BIGGEST THINGS FOR ME
WIFI mode!!!
With an iOS and android app that they plan to release you can completely control your camera and retrieve files from it using your Iphun or Smart phun! Very groovy BABY

This next point is where I decided it would be worth my time to waste your time with a link and my possibly TLDR post.
WATER PROOF TO 3M oohhh my this makes it very tempting indeed IMO No need to elaborate here, this doesn't mean its GoPro bomb proof but it won't drown in your gold fish bowl!

Apparently it will have 7 lens elements giving it better clarity and colouring. In the world of photography which i'm more knowledgeable in the LESS lens elements the higher IQ (Image quality) because there is less glass in front of the sensor. I have no idea what the old versions used.

I have not found a price for this camera but i expect it to be released for about $400.oo USD

If you are absolutely raving mad for that tagging feature and don't want to spend $600.oo on a brick then this would be the best option. Other than that as for aesthetics for use as a helmet camera it beats GoPro IMO because it is shaped more like a bullet doesn't stick out like a nuclear reactor in a field of flowers and the rotating lens as always is jucking fuicy awesome and useful!, over all the Hero 3 is better for crazy mounting spots where rocks and such might love tap it and it's more versatile recording options.

Thankfully the touch screen is complemented by buttons so it doesn't look like it will be the sole method of controlling the camera, even if it is Gorilla glass some riding gloves wont go well with a touch screen. I know with my phone I always accidentally hit the wrong button and on a 2" screen I would struggle.

Above is their demo video Anyone else want to see Drift sponsored athletes duke it out with GoPro athletes?
If you find my some what opinionated overview to long to read then shuv it and use the link provided at the top!
Thoughts? (I kind of enjoy writing these overall pointless write ups) I'm not suggesting what you buy.

Interesting.

Now I just want to know how quickly it'll break.

+1 8-)

I've had my drift HD and it's not broke. It's called looking after it.

I've seen many people on this forum who I'm sure have looked after their drifts but have still suffered from corrupted files and the like.

It's the camera itself.

Feel like I have to represent for those who've had the opposite experience with GoPro vs. Drift. I've had zero problems with my Drift since I bought it in January this year. None, nada, zip, nyet!

I bought a GoPro Hero2 in July of this year. It has had to be replaced TWICE now by GoPro under warranty.

I'd still buy one, look at it this way, if your HD170 Stealth keeps breaking, after about 3 replacements they'll replace it with a HD when they run out of Stealth stock, that'll break a few times and within a few years you'll have yourself a nice new Ghost. :P

Good point. I can break my way there.

Buying a drift.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat, if they weren't so expensive. I'll probably end up doing what I almost always do, wait a year and watch for all the bugs and goofs and all that to come out and see whether or not they fixed the issue with the battery disconnecting (causing corrupt files..) They put it in the middle of the camera this time around, so hopefully that won't be an issue. Either way, we'll see how it turns out... worked beautifully with the Stealth. Not many people reported problems with them, and mine hasn't even hiccuped since I bought it.

I blame all of the high price on the touch screen! Would rather see more improvements for that kind of price. 300-340 is what i would pay for one tops.

Eh, I think a lot of the price is just for the sake of a high price point. I feel that way about all electronics, btw. I think a touch screen on a camera is a great idea, but not on something like this. That kinda stuff is awesome on point and shoots, and I bet it'd be pretty great on a DSLR, but not something intended to be used while not in the hand.

I believe Mr Grumble (Baron von grumble) has got his mitts on one of these :] Check twitter, hopefully we can expect a review soon

I watched his unboxing today, which got me salivating for a full review. If the Ghost passes muster I'm going to get one as soon as possible.

And imho, GoPro's mounting system, lack of a rotatable lens, and endless backpack/door combinations are stupid engineering at it's stupidest. But I must admit they take nice videos, when they work, which for me is not often.

So yeah, I'm ready to try a Ghost if the reviews are good. :D

I will be trying the Ghost also. The remote light sold me. Ive only ever thought GoPro had an awesome advertising campaign, but the product was weird. After running pencil cams hooked upto tape recorders for my riding days, a brick just seemed wrong. The POV was on my "to buy" list until the drift stealth came out and i bought one. It stopped working after a week and was replaced under warranty with the newly released drifthd which has run flawlessly ever since. I think if Drift and GoPro swapped advertising budgets, no one would have ever heard of the GoPro.

looks to be the same setup as the old drift. IE. if you have and external mic, its not.

I want to try a few trials using Dielectric grease to seal up the access hole for the plug. I just need a way to test things without ruining any thing important...

Guess I'm a bit surprised they came out with another Drift so quickly considering they just got the HD working properly back in July. Tempting for a second camera, but I'm considering a Hero 3 just for something different. I'm not sure mounting one on the bike is going to be feasible with the roads the way they are anyhow. Oh well - competition drives down prices. Bring on the new cameras.

Have to chime in that since the firmware update in July, I haven't had any issues with my HD.

Anyone wondering where to get that video mentioned above here it is!
