out of the 2 in the title which is newer, better, why?
reading up on amazon the main thing i see is is the Drift HD records in 1080p and the Stealth only in 720p

The Drift HD is the newer smaller version. The older HD 170 is about an inch or so longer I believe.
Both record at 1080p.

Oh and watch out for prices. Shocked to see the HD 170 Stealth on Amazon for £190 as I bought it from there for about £130 when it was replaced by the Drift HD design.

Save for another few weeks and get a GoPro Hero HD 2, it pisses all over the Drift. Drift sucks the big one. Search this forum for "Drift problems". You'll have to do it manually as the search function says there's too many topics to list.

Go pro sticks out like a zit though. Great quality but no mic option is just a no. I know other use dicatphones and sync together but, I couldn't be arsed with all that pony.
As for the drift the on,y change is that it's now smaller?

Go pro 2 had an external mic

Oh k . Cheers. Thought a lot of people slated the mic on the go pro.
Still sticks out though!!

I have a gopro hero 2 and a Drift HD. And to be honest, I prefer the drift, it has richer colours but a tiny bit fuzzier image, whereas the gropro had a great image but you are colour blind in a sense. Its really unsaturated. And the drift is nice to place on a helmet. If you are just mounting one on the bike go gopro, if you want it on a helmet or somewhere awkward and want easy use, go with the Drift. I so far have not had any issues with the Drift and If I do I'll have it replaced. I did however have a pixel line thing with the gopro which they would not replace under the warranty... What the hell? So I was not pleased and spent 2 months arguing with them, snagged them with the sale of good act and threatened to take them to court. - they must have decided it will be cheaper to replace the camera. The Drift 170 is ok, just bulky like the go pro. And I don't think it had an external mic input. go with the HD.

The Drift Innovation HD170 does have an external mic output.

Provided you use their own over-priced mic, because it's not a standard 2.5 nor 3.5mm jack.

I brought the adapter, that turns it into 2.5 I think, might be 3.5. Now can fit any mic I want. Admittedly is a backward way of doing it.

That's what I did. Ended up with a $3 mic that's identical (aside from the connector) to the drift mic with a -10db attenuator between the mic and camera. The attenuator kills some of the bass in my voice but that's very easy to fix in Vegas. The end result is audio that is blatantly better than any camera alone I've ever heard...with the sole exception being the V570, that thing was awesome.

I would recommend the Drift HD. i own one and it works wonders! not had a problem with it as of yet. I've had it for about a month now :P

Just remember to do the firmware update. :) you can download it from the Drift Innovation website.

there is one thing to look out for, I believe there's allso a drift HD720 avoid it like the plague, they got rid of the mic port, tthe 1080P filming and loads of other stuff.

Only major difference between the HD170 Stealth and the new HD is the size, and I believe the HD has a few extra flavors of options on it.

thats the one, I mixed the 720 with the 170

The one you have brought is the new Drift HD :)

Just remember to do the firmware update for it, and buy a mic for it. i think it has a 2.5mm mic input, but enjoy it when it arrives. :)
