Bike Stuff is BACK at Lidl

I'm planning on getting a set of thermals and have a look at that tank bag.

I've got the bike cover from when they last sold bike kit, perfectly good cover tbh. Wedge it under the front wheel and side stand with elastication holding it under the number plate and works just fine, got a couple of bungee loops too.

I have never been into Lidl, but I think I might pop in for one of those fine tank bags. Well, when I say fine, I mean cheap.

Helmets are apparantly pretty good too, said to be comfy for wearing.

I've spent more on a beenie, I'd advise anyone not to buy Lidl's helmets.

Is that because you know something about LIDL helmets or are you a bit like me and think that because of the price, there must be something wrong?

I'm like you, Helemts I couldn't spend anything less than £400 on, Knowing what I know & all courses I've been on & studied I can only wear certian helmets, Arai & Xlite. I have nothing against their Thermal clothing or tank bag, but £40 on a helmet I mean come on, you must be daft to spend anything less than £100 on something that has to protect the most important part of yourself.

I think of it as if it doesn't cost the most it isnt' the best. You get what you pay for.

I once got a lid from there, was fine, never fell off, but after a while (and a small bird hit) parts started to fall off. Got a proper one from a proper bike shop now =)

I'd agree with you to a point. Some box £29.99 argos specials have higher sharp ratings than premium brands however.

I'd say do your research before buying a helmet rather than trust on price alone.

Would I use a lidl crash hat if I was hooning it on A roads or riding spirited - probably not

Would I use it as a spare, pillion or urban commute - most likely yes.

It's also perfect for 16 yr olds just getting into biking on a 50cc scoot, cheap cheerful biking.

A lot of the price tag that comes with expensive helmets relates to comfort, venting, shape, newness, shininess and brand. There are £100 lids around that'll be just as safe as £400 lids.

Having said that, I spent close to £400 on mine, but that was more because I knew nothing and didn't have the confidence to go for a cheaper lid.

last year when i got my first bike i went to look at them and decided i wanted a cross lid and my dad bought one from there was fine the viser bolts kept comeing lose next time they wer in he took it in there and swapped it that model is fine comfy nothing has come lose and he wears it more then the one before that and nothing has gone wrong with it.

and talking about cheap lids my motorcross lid a hjc cost me £23 reduced down from £120 my first road lid a ls2 cost me £20 reduced from £70 then my second road lid a caberg v2 cost me £18 from my mate he bought it wore it on the way to his dads (i was with him) he padlocked it to his bike when we came out the cheek pads wer gone so he went and got a lid from his dads and was going to throw it away i said ill give u what i have in my wallet for it lol that was £18 and new cheek pads from caberg are £20 just havent got them yet.

so just cos you dident pay alot doesnt mean they are crap and wont do the job the hole point of a helmet is to soften the blow when your head hits the floor they all are better then head straght to tarmac.

There's definitely more than 3 sentences there. *sigh*

I find it easier understanding a dog than what he writes.

at the end of the day, I personally wouldn't wear a helmet less than £400.

Wow you have alot to learn when it comes to helmets.

First off, I wouldn't touch a 2nd hand helmet, Cheek pads may have been nicked, but do you think they handled it lightly & thought, oh, best not drop this, No.
Secondly, a helmet isn't just to soften the 'blow' to the ground, when I wear a helmet I'd like it to be comfortable, & a £40 helmet will not be comfortable. I wouldn't wear it commuting, city riding, country riding any riding atall, becuase it doesn't matter what type of riding you do you crash at 70 it my be a lowside, crash at 30 it could be over the top job so the theory on riding styles to the helmet doesn't work.

You've basicly just contradicted yourself.

Less than £400 Azzer? My Caberg set me back £50 in the sales, 5* Sharp rating, and by far the most comfy helmet I've ever worn. Now ask yourself, if Caberg can make that, and sell it for a profit at an RRP of £150, what are you paying for?

Tell you what you are paying for, up to about £250 on nice things, then a further £150 for a name and the ability to tell people you've spent £400 on a helmet.

Your choice of course what you spend your money on, but IMO, you're being ripped off.

Agreed to a point, but I've crashed wearing Arai, my boss has crashed wearing Arai, Arai is by far the comfiest helmet to me.

& if its worked for me why should I change? I wouldn't brag about spending that much money on a helmet, I'm just saying you get what you pay for.

If you choose to spend £50 on something that has to protect your head so be it, bear in mind you now ride a faster bike capable of crashing at higher speeds.

Personal preference at the end of the day. You can only go as far as telling people, the rest is upto them.

Yup, agree with you there, no point changing if it works, just saying you could save yourself a few bob :)

I'm feeling pretty secure with 5* Sharp rating, no matter how much i pay for it! Anyway, i'd never even consider riding faster than 70 :P
