I've had my 2000 600s for 4 months now, so i figure i've got enough pics to do my part on here!

Managed to pick her up for a steal of a price, with 23000 on the clock, only issue being a slightly dodgy fuel pump which is in WIP at the point of writing.

This is the Bandit as i bought her, looking rather sorry for herself having been abandoned by the previous owner as he left for Oz, had been standing for 4 months in these pics:

You can she she's in need of a good clean, 3 deep ones and several quick goings over later she's looking more like this:

When i've finished my exams this year i'm going to take the engine out and repaint it, either in Black or Silver again as the paint is looking a bit tired these days, the pics don't really show it too well, but there's the odd heat mark and bit of flaking is starting to come through (Not bad for a 12 year old!)

The exhaust i'm undecided on, might change it might not, something to ponder over the next few months, if i was going to do it i'd get it sorted at the same time as the engine repaint, spend a nice few days in the garage :D

Today I fitted my RiderScan, it's a 180 degree mirror that lets you see in your blind spots, they're available from http://www.huntercreate.com

Otherwise, my plan for the next few months is:

- Double bubble screen, in Black
- Side fairings
- Heated grips (maybe)
- Engine repaint
- Sort Fuel tap!
- Replace the odd rusty part (pillion footpeg hanger etc)

I wouldn't bother repainting the engine. Unless your prepared to get it done professionally.

You do one bit wrong the rest of the engine paint will just flake with it.

What i'd do is.

- Replace all rusty/ old looking engine bolts
- Get rid of them discusting looking engine casing red bolts (I don't know why someone would put them on)

& if you know it's been stood for 4monts I'd look at an.

-Oil & Filter Change
-Brake Fluids Change
-Check Chain & F+R Sprockets ( May need replacing if any rust has been formed, Don't just spray WD40 on you need to use propper O-ring or X-ring chain lube.)
-Check pads & pistons incase of seizure
-Undo downpipes & re-lock'tite them

I wouldn't think about moding the bike untill you've done them checks, if you know it's been stood for 4months I'd do the checks & change it before thinking about riding it.

I'd repaint the Engine Cage but thats about it untill you've checked everything.

Its quite red.

He's been riding it for ages.

Well problems can occur in the future, I know that if I am to buy a 2nd hand bike & it's got a part service history, or I know it's been neglected. I will make sure the main parts are serviced or checked.

Like I said it's what I would do, if he chooses to just keep riding it then fair enough. Ohh & if I was to service it I would do it myself rather than let a mechanic do it just for the fact your mind is at rest when you've done it rather than a mechanic.

Thanks for that AZZ3R, but, i had kinda thought of those, it got serviced fully by the Suzuki dealer just after i bought it!

(After 2 years of riding i do kinda know how to oil my chain btw)

The engine would be repainted professionally, i've seen way to many dodgy paintjobs in my time!

No need to sound arsy about it, I'm only giving advice if you choose not to take it thats fine with me.

& you'd be surprised at how many people actually check their chain when their manual states to do so.

If you don't want people to be arsy, don't tell people they need to use oil to oil their chain and don't assume that you're the only one who checks the basics when they buy a bike, fine for a first timer, but this is my third!

It's not that the advice isn't good, it's that i don't need it.

Where have I said use Oil on your chain?

& I never assumed I was the only one, & if you must know where did I tell you to do anything? I was offering advice, if you don't want to take it that's fine. Don't go and have a bitch'fit over someone offering advice. Or if you don't want any from of advice/ help don't post a topic on which people can comment on.

I really do hate doing this but: "May need replacing if any rust has been formed, Don't just spray WD40 on you need to use propper O-ring or X-ring chain lube."

I didn't have a bitchfit over being given advice, i got a bit offended when someone suggested i'd not know what to use to lube my chain.

As i said before, i have no problem with advice (not that i asked for it), just i don't need those bits, if you do happen to know how to fix a fuel tap go ahead!

I've got to say it, you seem to be the one having the bitchfit! this was a positive post with some nice pictures of a shiny bike......

- Heated grips (maybe)

I think it's well worth getting heated grips, they're awesome! I use Oxford HotGrips and they have been perfect for me so far, they're only about £50 on eBay.

Probably something i'll get round to next autumn, unless we get a cold snap in feb like usual!

You quoted me, but where in that sentence did I say use oil? I didn't.

You'd be surprised how many people just put WD40 on their chains, you'd also be surprised at people using O-ring chain lube when the manual states X-ring.

I know you never asked for advice, But when you post a topic pretty much saying your bike was neglected by the previous owner, I though it might be 'Helpfull' for you to know the checks or do them. I also said, "Like I said it's what I would do". If you find that offending then let me know, & I'll appologise, don't just act on it and put an arsy comment back, when it was a simple & helpfull tip.

I am perfectly fine with however you look after your bike, me offering helpfull tips to you & whoever reads the post is me being helpfull.

Sorry, is this all about you saying lube not oil?

It had been standing, not neglected, in fact it had bloody well looked after.

It seems you can't see this from my point of view, imagine you'd posted this and someone came along and told you how to do the basics, i'm sure you'd be slightly hacked off.

Anyway, i'd love it if we could get along, but it seems when it comes to conflict you're like a moth to a lightbulb, i'm sure somebody will find what you have said useful, but try not to direct it so much then retreat faster than the french can muster!

I like the newer shape Bandits (I call them newer shape as they have pretty headlamps) The only real problem we find in our shop with these is the downpipes are stainless but the collector box can easily rot on them as it's only mild steel. but a stainless set of downpipes and collector on Ebay are about £140. The other one is they can sound a little cam chainy, that's not too bad as that to me is the Bandit sound. Finally, possibility of the Regulator rectifier but no where near as common as the Honda CBR600 one going.

The exhaust normally goes where the 2 large allen bolts are in the frame near the rear brake pedal.

(this wasn't advice by the way, just my experience and findings so be gentle....lol )

Yeah the guy had changed the pipes not to long ago so they're not to bad, the ones on the YBR were terrible so these seem very solid. Otherwise mine shows no signs of the other things you mention :D

Don't worry, you're fine :P

If you feel better by calling me, so be it, I won't stoop down to your level. Have a nice evening & hope the bike runs fine.

I don't feel better by "calling" anyone, i don't "call" anyone, i don't even see how "After 2 years of riding i do kinda know how to oil my chain btw" could lead anyone off like it has you, please, just take a chill pill.

I'm sure it will,

Have a good evening yourself :)
