Anyone Else Repeatedly Say 'erm' Every Other Sentence?

I have this terrible problem of saying 'erm' when i'm struggling with what to say.

Anyone else had this and found anything that helps you to over come it?

Or would you put it down to the fact that i'm just getting used to riding and trying to talk at this same time?

Many thanks!

I used to do that alot. What I do now is make a conscious effort to just breath instead, then you can cut that 1-2 sec of dead space out.

You can edit! Take a pause, regather, and speak. Cut the erm and the silence and carry on.

Just been out to try just breathing and taking my time and i think it's a lot better!
This will save me a lot of time editing!
Thanks all! :D:D

About 3 "uhhhhhhh"'s per sentence for me. To be fair, I talk like that in real life too, so I can't be bothered. I edit a lot of it out though

like others have suggested, Take a break and edit it out

however dont let your videos become

quick and excessive

edits

just

because you dont want an

erm

in it,

I say 'erm', 'so' and 'but, yes' a lot. Less than I did when I started, but they still crop up every video. If I catch myself whilst I'm out recording, I'll either pause for a few seconds to give me a decent cut, or just shrug and get on with it. For a while I tried to cut every instance ot of my footage when editing, but sometimes you'll find one you can't cut cleanly, and have to leave it in. Then you realise it's not a huge problem and start not to worry about it.

If you're only saying it a few times, using it as 'vocal punctuation' of sorts, I wouldn't worry to much about cutting every last one out. As you vlog more, you'll find yourself naturally feeling more comfortable about talking whilst riding, your chatter will flow better, and you'll naturally find yourself saying erm less.

Do you say it when you normally talk or just when you vlog?

If you say it all the time then I guess its just part of your personality.

I used to, in my first 5 motovlogs. I guess, erm, I don't anymore? :D

I learned that when you're just being you, just talking naturally and not trying to give a speech while driving, your fillers are minimized (unless of course you use it heavily in off-cam conversations).

I had this problem because I didn't learn to speak decent English until I was 19.

My go-to is "um b'yeah"---"but"+"yeah"---it usually follows a pause or me being afraid of it getting too quiet and wasting battery life.

According to some people who have watched my channel, I say "fuck" too much, but I'm not fuckin changing for those fuckers.

So it seem I start almost every sentence with so.

So not sure how to get around that one.

So umm I guess after watching some of my video's umm I do it more than I thought I did.

I've known quite a few people who use filler words like this. Check out this club called Toastmasters. Helped me get rid of a filler word I used a lot. They actually have a guy who tells you how many times you use them. :D

I've heard some people write out what they're going to say before hand, so you don't get nervous fill in words. Or you could just edit it out =P

Some videos I've seen, if erm go edited out would make it look like animated flip book. Best way to get rid of it is to nip the habit. From jobs I've had which had to have a lot of talking for sales etc. saying it really hurt, if you said it a lot you had more chance of losing the sale as it can sound like you are not sure of what you are talking about, just have to be conscious of doing it and pull yourself up on it before saying it, eventually you stopped using it and could flow on with your talk.
My biggest thing is going silent mid speech when I have to focus on something else on the road, eg. a quick pass or getting through an intersection or something. I've decided to talk my way through it about what I'm doing in the traffic. A good median to not be silent or continue talking, be distracted and get hit by a car. lol.
