Hey guys i'm looking to update my my camera but the problem i have is funds as i'm a full time student however i have just seen that on amazon there is a drift hd170 for £125 but there is also another one which is £179 and i was wondering what the difference is between the two of them :s also which one should i get? i can only really afford the cheaper one but it depends if the difference is really worth it. hope you guys can help me out :)
here are the links to the two that i found:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Drift-HD170-Ste ... 414&sr=8-1
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Drift-Innovatio ... 414&sr=8-2

the more expensive one is the new one, it has a different back to it, as such removing the need for the waterproof boot that I use, HD is smaller and has a few extra things, but I've never had a problem with the HD170, so if you can only afford one then the other isn't really worth much more

hope that made sence as I'm doing a school report in an intirely different language atm, so it might seem like jibberish but I'm quite rushed atm.

hope I helped =)

You answered your own question tbh. The HD is a better camera, but not if you have to stretch to get it. The HD170 will work just fine.

haha i get the frist bit but what do you mean that the other isnt really worth that more? do u think i should just save the extra bit money and get the newer one? the one that you have is the cheaper one right? do you have to get a special mic or is it a jack one?
also thanks for getting back to me so quickly :)

haha you done the same thing as mike, the hd one???? so is the hd170 not the one that records in 1080p? :S and i could get the more expensive one but it means i will have to wait a little bit longer before i can upgrade :( but if its worth me spending a little more then i will

I went for the £125ish one on amazon, i.e. the older model but it still films in HD. You'll also need the mic and the waterproof cover if you intend riding in the rain, which will add about £30 to the cost. Plus a memory card.

Thanks for clearing that up lol i was getting so confused, i have a 8 gb mini sd which i can put in an adapter but is 8gb enough? and thanks for letting me know about the mic :)

I use an 8gb card. At full 1080p you get about 1.5hrs recording or 2hrs15mins at 720p.
The battery it comes with lasts approx. 2.5hrs.
More than enough to get you started :)

cheers sounds like i wont be needing a bigger memory card unless i'm going on a long ride cause i want it as a precaution as well as for vlogging think im going to go with the cheaper one :)

If you want to use it as a running dash cam, there's no reason to record in 1080. I frequently turn mine down to 480 for the long rides just to keep file size down. Only takes a few seconds to turn the quality back up if you decide you're going to vlog.

yep I have the cheaper one the HD170, it's brilliant, I use mine in 720 all the time, even for vlogs and it turns out fine =) as said above, you'll need a special mic (non jack) and the rubber sleve

i like the quality of your videos so i think thats defently the one i would like :), does the rubber sleeve make it "water resistant" incase i get caught in the rain :)

cheers for the advise i will defently keep that in mind as the quality doesn't matter so much for just riding as long as i can get footage of potential crashes etc...

yep it'll stop most of the rain (I've got a couple of rainy vlogs) but I wouldn't dunk it in your local pond with just the sleeve on

haha i wouldn't be doing that on purpose :) but as long as it keeps the rain out and not messing up the camera cause i wont be happy as it costs a lot for me being a student and all haha

drift are pretty good in that if you buy it from their site they'll send you a new one, a friend of mine lent it to his mate, and his mate put it through a carwash, Drift sent him a new one (though he didn't tell them about the carwash bit)
