Greetings and all that...

So, I'm a grumpy old grey haired English bloke... used to ride a lot and commute to work from south London to Brighton (down on the little wet bit of England -- near France). I emigrated to the Yoo Ess of Ay a couple of years ago and since then, have worked all over the country. Go home at weekend in VA and then SC on the East Coast and flying around for work so bikes were never really something on the priority list.

Saying that, I bought an old Triumph Daytona from a friend of a friend of a friend because it was in great condition and had been in storage for nearly EIGHT YEARS! Now, two years later and just relocated to Southern California for a permie gig and no more traveling means the daily commute

SoCal - perfect riding weather all year round and I can filter again! Huzzah!!

I'm finally getting off my fat lazy arse and getting ready to ride means I have to resurrect the old Trumpet and re-take my bike test (to get a yank one). #BloodyHell

So, to add a sprinkle of fun to the whole experience and because I just tend to like the sound of my own voice now it's time to research this whole motovlogging boom and figure out what kit to buy, what software to use and what nonsense to burble about on my way into the office

So... jus I'm just stopping by to say HELLO!

Welcome. The US bike test (MSF Basic Rider Course) is a piece of piss, but it's worth revising the highway code book.
I use iMovie cos it's free and good enough for what I want. You won't need the latest and greatest camera when you start out, so save yourself some money and look on fleabay or get a previous generation camera from the main camera stores/online. When deciding which camera you want, make a list of priorities. Do you want remote control, video screen on camera, mount on side of helmet or chin. Don't just ask a forum for GoPro or Drift or Sony, as you'll just get fanboys saying "mine's great, the other one is shit".
As for topics, start off giving a brief history of why you're in the US, story behind your bike, local news stories, video responses to other vloggers, etc.

welcome i wish i had nice weather all year round, im from the coast of slovenia, so its not too bad and i still ride all year round, even though it can get pretty cold

suggestion on camera: drift HD ghost ..while i didnt try the gopro yet, the drift is super easy to use and produces ok quality video as well as audio in my opinion,
for the mic im using detachable mic from my gaming headset, so i think pretty much anything should do as long as you can position it propperly
and lastly the editing software i use is sony vegas 11, its pretty much everything i need and more, so im happy with that

I agree... if you have a Mac, iMovie is the best and cheapest to use unless you can get an older version of fcpx to work for your needs . Also, agreed with above, go onto ebay and get an older generation camera to start out... but make sure to do your research because some of those older generation cams do not have the features - like a mic-in port, that one would come to expect. Also, it's a nice little way to make sure you like motovlogging before beginning to invest into the big bucks . Another thing - aim for big but expect maybe not so much in the beginning . Networking is very important and motovlog.com is a great way to start ! Replying to comments on YouTube is also important. It takes a lot of time, along with well edited vlogs, but is sure worth it .
