Hey everyone,

My (nick-)name's Beatsy, and I'm from the UK.
I got my license a few months back, but I've been riding for a few years now (not illegally).

I've recently had a few incidents, almost being knocked over by cars, stupid pedestrians, etc, and I thought it would be time to get a camera just in case, and while doing it; why not ramble on? I love motovlogging, my favourite MVloggers are LeadPin and AdjrianNickelodeon.

I also have a few questions to begin with:
- Which camera has decent quality, but is under 100GBP? I'm a bit short on cash, so a nice Drift isn't going to be the one (although I'd really like one)
- In your opinion, what's an ideal way to get in to motovlogging? I can appreciate, that YouTube is the platform of choice, here, but what is your experience in these things?

You can get an original hero for £100, and I have heard great things about the SVC200, and before I got my drift I was very close to getting the Replay XD720 and I still really want one its the coolest bullet cam on the market.

And I just found one called the Roadhawk RIDE but I know little about it

And if you want exposure, Youtube is the only viable option. But post and share in other locations and you might find a hidden market!

I would second the original GoPro Hero. I found it on Amazon UK for 99 GBP. I'm more familiar with GoPro than any other brand and their quality is nice and suitable for motovlogging needs. You may have to purchase additional connectors (j-hook, 3 way arm) though as it only has flat and curved mounts. Also, you cannot remove it from its housing, meaning you may have to record your audio separately. The battery is built in, so when it fails you may be out of a camera.

If you have the time and ability to save up a bit more cash, I would go up to the Hero 3 for 149 GBP. You'd be able to remove it from the housing and change the battery when needed. You get the same two mounts, so you may still need to purchase the connectors, but you can record audio into the camera using the converter required for 3.5 jacks, which eliminates some hassle.

TLDR: For the money you are looking to spend, I would second the original GoPro Hero if you want to start now, though it has its cons. If you have the time and ability, I would suggest you save for a Hero 3 White and it's needed accessories.

Pick up a Drift HD170 Stealth on eBay for £50-£75. Or contact 'actioncameras' direct and ask for a refurb unit (I have 2).

The mic will set you back another £15, or an eBay adapter to accept 3.5mm mics for a few quid.

This way, when you upgrade to a better drift, all of your mounts will fit. And if you get a Drift HD rather than a ghost, the batteries are interchangeable. Also you can pick up cheap spare batteries as drift use rebranded Fuji camera batteries so there are lots of compatible aftermarket ones out there. I have 9 batteries now! And I'm a tight arse!

The 2014 HERO has 1080p 30fps and two 720p 60fps modes, it's what I use. It has no external mic of it's own though, so I use an old phone to record my audio.

If you get the 2014 hero (which I thoroughly recommend!) note that you will need to have a separate way of recording your voice.
