Welcome to TallADVer

Hi, all! My name is Chris, my location is MD (central/north), and I ride a new-to-me 2017 Africa Twin DCT. I've been a street bike rider on and off for 25+ years, and am trying to broaden my horizons a bit with some mixed on and off road riding, hopefully eventually leading up to some actual adventures (once my skills and free time allow).

I've also recently started up a YouTube channel dedicated to my various and ever-growing collection of hobbies (channel name "Compulsive Hobbyist"). I've just posted my first overly long and rambling test attempt at a motovlog, and in the process of researching how to make the rendered and transcoded final product not look like crap, I stumbled across this fine forum. So... here I am :)

I'll be working on working on refining both my recording setup and my content before posting a proper shoutout video (after getting my post count up of course)

Welcome! I too have a similar history. Bought a WR250R when I turned 50 and learned to ride dirt. It was a blast until I broke my wrist. Then I decided I'd never ride Dakar anyway and now I keep to the easy trails.

I'm also very new to this motovlogging thing.

Just FYI, site rules require you to post a bunch of other posts before you can post videos to the Members Vlogging section. I'm new here as well and this frustrated me for a bit until I figured it out.

Thanks! That does suck about the wrist -- I had a similar spill many years ago on a bicycle, and I can attest to how quickly it can happen. I'm definitely wary about getting the big AT into anything too technical, and like you will likely be sticking to easier trails.

Very nice first video! I haven't watched it all yet, but I like your approach of mixing in touring footage with documentary-style context and history. Very cool!

Lovely bikes the ATs, and the DCT is meant to be very good option on them too I've heard!

I do like the AT, and the DCT is great from a performance perspective, especially on sports cars. But now that I have one on a bike, I must admit that I'm not sure I see the necessity of it. I miss my clutch and shift lever more than I see any benefit of the hands-free shifting. But then, I'm still pretty much only riding on road... I understand that the real benefits are supposed to be in more technical riding. We'll see...

Welcome, nice Africa Twin!
Thanks, man - just subbed to your channel. You live in a beautiful area for riding! My cousin over in Berks County has a moto-related channel, trying to get him to take the plunge into vlogging. I hope to get up there soon to do an AT vs KLR fun vid with him. And, of course, to check out Martin Moto :)

Good people over at Martin Moto in Boyertown.

Hi Chris, lovely looking AT you got there. Just checked out your channel and subbed. Goodluck to all the hobbies man, cheers..

Thank you! Will check out your videos as well, looks like you've done a lot of moto travel around Indonesia, very cool!

Welcome @TallADVer the Africa Twins seem to be very impressive bikes here in the US.
Thanks, man! Yeah, I like mine. It's not perfect, and probably no bike is, but it does what I need it to do for now. It will certainly get me out on adventures, which is really what I bought it for. Now, actually carving out the time to go out and do those adventures? That's a bigger hurdle, but at least I can't blame the bike for holding me back :)

You got that right about no bike being perfect. I am still on the hunt for one myself. Preferably one that pays for itself ;)
