Still looks like a downgrade, more expensive, and still no way to easily add an ND filter to the lens unless you buy that stupid expensive 70$ polarpro "magnetic" ND filter set 
And to top it all off, it isn't even compatible with the Media mod

You can make your own ND filter really cheaply if you feel the need.
The GoPro Hero 8 Black is a cracking camera, so much better than the 7.

Same, I have a hard time justifying buying new cameras. I try my hardest to find things second hand with little or gentle use.

I don't see these add ons as being really expensive. HD cameras used to cost thousands of dollars and now for under $500 bucks you can have some of the best tech (aduio and video) in your hands and attached to anything in a few minutes.

No, it is slightly larger... but it doesn't need a frame to mount it so is smaller than a 5, 6, 7 in the frame. The Media Mod will make it considerably larger though.

It would look a lot sleeker I suppose. I have seen the GH8 in the store and it does look smaller than the 7.

Preordering of the Media Mod has been dropped back a month damn it. I can still use my voice recorder, but this is very annoying!

Annoyingly, GoPro are now selling the camera a load cheaper on Amazon currently too.... Had I not been a loyal customer of theirs I would have saved almost enough to buy the Media Mod!

I've noticed this as well, release beta products to your most loyal clients because they'll stick with you anyway.
Games love this as well, full price for first bunch of customers and then 3 months later its 40% off on another "Steam Summer Sale". Most new games are barely done when launched.

A little update on the GoPro Hero 8 Black, no news on the Media Mod, but I have successfully run it on a powerbank briefly, and I have also now fitted some hydrophobic glass protectors to the lens and other screens, which will hopefully help keep a clearer recording in our very wet weather. The powerbank thing was an experiment for now as I will not run it with the battery cover removed in our crappy weather. Am chuffed to have sorted the lens protectors though!
