Hi All

Does anyone know how to block out faces and numberplates using gopro studio? sadly I do not have any other software to use.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I have some good videos up on my 'Faceless Rebel' youtube channel but want to make them better with this technique. Thanks all

The above are correct. I do think you will need to get ahold of something higher end then the free studio to blur and track plates or faces.

thanks mate. i thought that was the case as i would of normally found out by just playing around with it.

Honestly, gopro studio is mostly for slow mo or for cutting... use sony vegas for blurring out faces... you'll have to get pixalate plugin to blur the faces out... it's nice when everything is done.

Cheers Fobs, sadly no coin to get anything at the moment. cheers for the input

I have noticed youtube has a blur faces button under enhancements in edit drop down. It looks automated so may not work great. Havnt had a play in it yet. For go pro studio you could use a title overlay, find a keystroke and font that would suit to cover the plate. It wouldnt look pretty and may not work for alot of shots. Otherwise trakax is cheap to buy and can do it.

I have been researching blurring today. Busy uploading a vid where I used Google's blur function, will see what it looks like once done.

YuoTube does enough to the video quality that using any of their "enhancements" ruins the video.

Unfortunately you need a better editing suite that allow for plugins and enhancements. When it comes to free, you get what you pay for, generally. Not saying there isnt anything out there that exists, but be wary of anything that says "edits just like Adobe or FCP" but costs next to nothing. There will be a trade-off.

I use Sony Vegas, but i think Adobe Premiere pro is a better choice.

Those are your 2 best options. Nothing else will do it better.

Also, most of the time I'd rather just not include footage of people who don't want their faces or plates shown. Because blurring requires a bit of work doing tracking which is tedious and painstaking.

I use sony vegas pro 13, are there plugins etc that can blur/pixelate faces and numberplates for me? if so where can I find it..

I gave up on open source editors a long time ago. they were slow, didn't do anything worthwhile or the compression ruined the videos in the final render. When it comes to editors, you get what you pay for, and free gives you only the most basic. There is a reason FCP, Adobe, Vegas are or close to, industry standards (outside custom proprietary software)

Bluring specific areas of video is not a simple, fly-by-nite process, which is why it isnt included in the inexpensive or quick editors. It has to track the location, and blur each and every frame.

You will save time and trouble just getting some software that can handle it the first time. Anything else is wasting time.

Either buy it off somewhere on the internet like Amazon or at a retail store.

Or if you have less scruples, you'll find a way, but I can't mention it here.

It took me 3 hours to cover up my mates number plate for a 4 second wheelie.. as I had to do it frame by frame, definatly need to get some sort of plugin for my sony vegas

I've got sony vegas pro already, or do you mean buying the plugins from amazon? don't see how that one would work

I don't know how Vegas works but on FCPX you duplicate the clip as a layer imposed on top of the video and apply a blur masked to an area which you can track over an object, or use key frames to keep it roughly where you want it. Do you have this option in Vegas?
