New Alaskan Motovlogger

F.S.Phil

Alaskan Motovlogger for now
My name's Freespiritphil and I'm sort of Alaskan in that I live here until September when the military moves me elsewhere. Hopefully, I go somewhere warm like Florida (where I grew up) or Texas. Don't get me wrong, this place is absolutely gorgeous and I look forward to vlogging as much as possible during my last summer here and sharing my experiences with others... but 8 month long winters gets old fast. I'm ready for warm weather. How about you? You can find my channel by searching my name on youtube.

Welcome!

I saw some footage of Alaska in the summer time and it looked gorgeous, but I couldn't imagine being there during winter time.

Winter here is so strange. You'd be surprised at how people not only survive, but actually thrive here.

Welcome :) ... subbed for future content on your motorcycle ^_^ ! Request - curious about your military history, can you tell us a bit about it :o ???

Peace ;) ~

I have been in the Air Force for about 6 years as a weather forecaster. Prior to Alaska, I was stationed in Tucson, AZ (but I didn't ride motorcycles back then). There is not really much to say. I have an interesting job as a "weather guy" which I will be talking about a little on my motovlogs, but I haven't really seen any combat (if that's what you're asking) like what some other people have had to deal with. Essentially, I have a desk job.

Nice - the people who invented the tornado watch and warning as we know it :D . I'm a storm spotter here in my area... and weather is my passion :) (if I has the choice, I would have done meteorology at the University - if my dad hadn't talked me out of it ~_~ ). You're a lucky guy, really ;) .....

If you ever get stationed out at Offutt, we'll have to meet up sometime :D heh! What rank are you, airman, btw o_O (hope I'm using the right term :p ~)???

There is a very good chance we will end up at Offut at some point in my career since it is the Air Force weather headquarters. If that happens we will definitely meet up. I'm a Staff Sergeant by the way.

Nice :) ! My dad was in Vietnam for two years in the regular Army and then when he got back, he transitioned to weekend warrior mode with the Army National Guard because my parents needed the extra money :p . He ended up enjoying it so much that he stayed with it and retired as a First Sergeant just shy of 40 years... mandatory retiring age - they wouldn't let him get to 40 by a few months ~_~ . Those days were a lot different in the National Guard, of course... the weekend warriors were a bunch of goofballs before the dark days of 2001 and my dad did see the (sad) changes thereafter, but it was all good :) .

Ah well, anywho, if and when you do get to Nebraska, Offutt is only about an hour away from here ;) (see their planes do touch-and-gos at our airport all the time :p ) - would love to do a meet-up :) ! Best of adventures ^_^ ... also in finding out where you go next :p heh. Also, thanks so much for your service ^^ !!

Welcome! How warm does it get during the summer there?

Thanks! Summers in the interior of Alaska where I am are usually in the 60s and 70s with the occasional jump into the 80s and 90s. Along the coast however, like in Anchorage it does not get that hot because the water moderates the temps. The same is true for winters. We'll see -30 to -50 in the coldest part of winter (January & February) while Anchorage might see -20 at coldest and for much shorter periods of time.
